After being told by a local pub owner to head over to the ‘red door’ down the dark pathway, the six of us were a little sceptical to say the least – however Basement Sate turned out to be a great choice!
We went to Basement Sate on a Friday evening, after having dinner in Piccadilly and then experiencing a VERY ‘local’ pub (I can’t remember the name of it but it really wasn’t the ‘sophisticated’ vibe we were going for…
As I mentioned above, we asked the local pub owner to give us a recommendation as to where he thought was good to go on a Friday night in Soho and he pointed us towards a red door on Broadwick Street. At first glance, it looked kind of like something you would find in the Red Light District in Amsterdam (or you could call it dodgy). Anyway, me being me, barged past everyone and insisted that we gave it a chance so, I went through the red door and down the stairs and oh my goodness were we wrong!

Basement Sate has such an amazing vibe. The lighting is dimmed and the cocktails there taste amazing! Now, being completely honest, I was already four sangrias and two vodkas down so my memory of the drinks by this point is probably a bit hazy. However, despite my drunken ways, I still managed to remember just how lovely my cocktail was! I tried the ‘Hint of Coconut’ which includes: a Blend of Rum, Passion Fruit, Spiced Chai, Fernet Branca and Lime. I had a couple of these and then my boyfriends auntie brought me a couple more drinks but I was pretty much gone by this point so I have no idea what else I had.
I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this bar, they occasionally have live music in there and there are cute little cubbyholes that you can sit in which are slightly away from everyone. The overall feel of the bar is very ‘London’ / ‘Soho’ and it was certainly the perfect place to have a nice sophisticated drink!
If you are heading to Soho at any point and you’re stuck for somewhere to go, I couldn’t recommend this place enough! Their staff were fab and very tentative, the drinks were beautiful and the interior decor just added to the overall chilled vibe.
