Sunday 25th October 2020
When the four of us booked our staycation in Bath, we wanted to ensure that we had lots to do everyday and that we saw as much of the small city as possible. We simply searched ‘fun things to do in Bath’ and TripAdvisor came up with the ‘Private Self-Guided Treasure Hunt around Bath’.
As we all get a little side tracked and bored on normal guided tours, we thought the idea of a ‘self-guided treasure hunt’ sounded pretty good! We booked this for £9.99 each and we were sent the information a couple of days before the Sunday that we had booked it for.
On the day, we received information from the company, they sent texts to each of us with instructions on how to begin the tour and where to begin. We had a little trouble joining at first because the signal in the city centre was AWFUL which was pretty unexpected. After calling the company and getting more info, they helped us out and we finally began the tour! To be completely honest, the information that we were sent wasn’t the most helpful and it was slightly confusing.
We were sent clues and riddles via a group chat that we were all included in online. Once we had worked out the riddle, one of us had to post the answer in the group chat and it would say whether we had got it right or wrong. It was really fun at the beginning however, after about an hour, we started to get a little tired and we started messing around and writing lots of guesses (which surprisingly worked at times!)
**Disclaimer – wear comfortable shoes!
The only thing I would recommend would be, if you are doing it in a group, just pay for one of you to do it! It saves a lot of money and it means you only use one phone (which we ended up doing anyway because we couldn’t all be bothered to hold our phones and type the answers in)
Overall, I thought this was a really good idea and it did actually teach us a lot about the city and its heritage, in a fun and more interactive way!
