Overall rating:
My boyfriend and I attempted this place for a walk today for the second time because the first time ended up being too muddy, and my friend and I only had trainers which definitely wouldn’t have been a good shoe choice. So, we attempted it again in more appropriate footwear this time and sadly, the outcome was worse…
To be honest, there were cones in front of the walkway which I’m pretty sure were there to deter people from walking down there, but so many people walked down there so we thought we would join!
It was cold so we bought some hot chocolates from McDonald’s and took them with us, and then we set off. Firstly, we walked down the slope which was RIDICULOUSLY muddy and Martin basically flew down the hill and nearly fell over. I then said that we should just go back but we were too far in to turn back. I then VERY slowly walked down the hill and thought I had got away with it. Well guess what…I didn’t! We walked about 5 meters (after letting a couple go in front of us) and I went flying into the mud! I managed to save some of my hot chocolate but it wasn’t pretty (as you can see from the image above). The whole walkway was full of mud and it was impossible to walk along there without slipping at least once.
After slipping, we decided that we wouldn’t carry on so we found a way out that didn’t require slipping down a hill and then walked back to the car along the road. On top of that, It was very foggy so the view was basically non-existent.
Bluebell Hill Picnic Site is a lovely place but I would not recommend it in the winter, especially after it has been raining because It is impossible to walk along there without slipping and getting covered in mud. So, don’t go here at the moment, you’ll probably regret it!
