Sunday 6th March 2022
Myself and my boyfriend visited Novotel, Canary Wharf for my birthday on Sunday 6th March. when first surprised with it, I was so excited because I always see it when I go past it on the river while I’m working.
First impression were: the reception, foyer and the hotel cafe were beautiful and decorated to a high standard. As we were going to see a show straight away, we had to drop our bags off with the hotel staff and then come back to check in later. The staff were lovely and welcoming as soon as we arrived.
We ended up getting back to the hotel and checking in at around 11:30pm and the man we spoke to behind the desk was quite moody and didn’t really seem like he wanted to be there. He then couldn’t find our bags and to my surprise, they were actually left in sight in the foyer which I was really not happy about. The man also swore when he couldn’t find our bags which I thought was pretty unprofessional. However, the next man we spoke to was very polite, he gave us some toothpaste because we forgot ours and he also answered all of our questions so I was very happy after that.
Once we arrived at our room, I was amazed by the modern, high tech decor and what really made it was the incredible city view. We could see the Shard, Tower Bridge and The London Eye so clearly which made is very romantic. It felt like we could literally see the whole of London! Martin’s favourite part about the room was the cool shower feature – you pressed a button and it changed the shower glass from opaque to clear which I also thought was pretty cool.
Once up in the morning and refreshed after an amazing sleep on the COMFIEST bed EVER, we went down for breakfast with another stunning view. We paid £25pp for unlimited breakfast (including hot breakfast and continental) which I thought was pretty pricey. The food was however very lovely and everything was cooked fresh. The staff in the restaurant were also very lovely too.
We decided to pay for late checkout so we could spend some time in their swimming pool so we went to speak to the hotel staff to extend our stay. We were advised that it was £30 until 2pm and then you had to pay per hour afterwards. I was quite disappointed to find out that the hotel pool was closed for cleaning on Monday’s and didn’t open until 3pm – if we were told this upon check in then we would have ensured we got up earlier and went swimming and then had breakfast afterwards. The cafe downstairs was also shut on Mondays which we were also not told about However, once in the swimming pool and sauna, it was definitely worth the wait! It was lovely and relaxing and they also had a really good gym next to it too.
Overall, we had a lovely stay for the most part. The food was delicious, the bedroom was clean and well presented and the facilities were really nice. I did however feel like some of their staff let them down slightly. Despite that, I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this for sure.
